罗小黑战记/Legend of Hei movie subtitles

Just spent the entire day subtitling the Luo Xiaohei movie, which is currently streaming but it's region-locked...pls someone acquire international streaming rights soon ;;

Luo Xiaohei Zhanji (罗小黑战记) is the brainchild of animation aficionado (and lowkey genius) MTJJ, who together with a handful of friends have been making 5 minute flash animations about a small black cat demon since 2011. The movie is a prequel to the web series (hence why the English title is Legend of Hei and not Legend of Luo Xiaohei b/c technically he's not a Luo yet) and does not require any prior knowledge to enjoy.

I've probably watched the movie something like 4x in the process of subbing it but would still be down to rewatch it 10000x more. It's every bit as funny as I expected, and a whole lot sadder than I expected. (I was a little worried at first by the short runtime thinking it wouldn't be enough for all the characters, but that turned out to not be a problem at all.)

Legend of Hei is very much MTJJ's independent passion project, and out of respect, I will not aid or abet in downloading the movie. (Though I guess if you pirate anime/donghua on the regular, then you already know where to get it.) So if you somehow already have the movie on your hard drive, I am linking the .srt file for my english subtitles down in the comments.

I haven't subbed in years (I used to all the time back in college) and nearly forgot what a real pain in the ass timing subs can be! My results are not perfect. But I reeeally needed to make my own subs asap in order to stream the movie with friends, and because I don't trust...big fansub groups...

I have provided these subs for your personal use ONLY. It would break my heart to see my translation hardsubbed on some shady anime site that mines bitcoin in your browser. Please don't do it folks.

PS. Apparently Netflix has this form (https://help.netflix.com/en/titlerequest) where you can suggest titles you want to see? Idk how useful it actually is but it wouldn’t hurt to put Legend of Hei in there to try and get it streaming legally in your region!

I love this movie so much! Its themes are surprisingly sad and complex, for all its warmth and humor. Thank you for the subs! ♥ (I should probably check out the web series too.)

Nezha got picked up by Netflix recently so hopefully LXHZJ is next. ;___;
